Dry ground can still flood fast
The National Weather Service office in Albuquerque said on 14 September that a strong surge of monsoon moisture would raise the chance of heavy rain and flash flooding during the week. It singled out urban drainage, burn scars and low-water crossings. Normally dry arroyos can fill rapidly when storms form upstream, even when it has not rained at the crossing itself.
Why the exact storm location is uncertain
The office noted differences among short-range models in how thunderstorms would develop. That uncertainty affects which neighborhood or canyon receives the heaviest burst; it does not remove the broader risk from a moisture-rich atmosphere. Multiple rainy days can also make dirt roads muddy and leave standing water in low spots.
This is a dated outlook, not a current flash-flood warning. Anyone traveling in the area should check local alerts and avoid entering flooded roads or channels.
