Rain and drought are different timescales
Météo-France reported on 14 September that drought remained pronounced in parts of France at the start of autumn, despite a changeable short-term forecast. The agency described a warm beginning to the week, with temperatures reaching around 30°C in some northern areas. A weak rain band expected later in the week would not, on its own, erase a longer water deficit.
Why a brief shower can mislead
Drought reflects accumulated rainfall shortages, soil moisture and water resources over weeks or months. A day's rain may wet the surface without fully replenishing deeper stores. Conversely, a hot afternoon is not enough to describe the whole season. The agency's drought and forecast products should be read at their respective timescales.
This article records the 14 September assessment. Local heat, rain and water-use restrictions may differ by department and should be checked through current French official notices.
